The article presents a discussion on the psychiatric term "NOS" as it is used as a prefix to various numerically-coded diagnoses. The author discusses how this prefix indicates that a spectrum of symptoms are being displayed by a patient and that it is essentially a very general description of what has been observed. He also discusses some of the issues that are associated with these descriptions including that they have been used in some instances as the basis for administering certain forms of treatment. |
