The article provides an outlook for the U.S. commercial real estate debt market for 2009. It cites some of the factors that are affecting the sector, such as the rise in unemployment rate, the disappointing holiday shopping season and the decline in home sales. According to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), the overall level of commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) outstanding continues to decline from $821 billion in 2007 to $800 billion through the third quarter of 2008. |
