Abstrakt: With his colleague from the National Museum in Prague, Dr. Jiri Baum (1900-44), Czech traveler Frantisek Vladimir Foit (1900-71) motored the length of Africa in 1933. Focusing largely on his experiences in what was then the Belgian Congo, this article recalls his preparation for the trip, beginning in 1931, the trip itself, and his interactions with other Europeans he encountered. A drawing of the vehicle, a Czech-built Tatra 12, fitted out for the journey and photographs of African artwork he acquired on the way illustrate the account. [ABSTRACT FROM CONTRIBUTOR]
