Gender-Based Analysis and Differing Worldviews This paper examines the federal government's approach to mainstream gender-based analysis (GBA) in Canada and explores whether it can contribute to the development of policy, services, and research that are responsive to First Nations women and children's health needs. It is too often assumed that because federal departments have a GBA in place, women's needs and concerns are being addressed. However, despite training sessions on its use, policies using GBA are almost non-existent. This paper argues that it is important to acknowledge GBA as a western paradigm and that it may not be an appropriate fit to ensure equality and the human rights issues related to First Nations women that are also in line with First Nations men and that of other Canadians.
