Chapter 4 of the book "Learning, Culture and Community in Online Education: Research and Practice," edited by Caroline Haythornthwaite and Michelle M. Kazmer is presented. It discusses orality and the traditional knowledge of distributed learning community. The prospect of harnessing technology to construct learning community across geographical space and culture and personality boundaries can be intimidating. Students tend not to form communities they do in physical proximity in cyberspace. |
