Chapter 9 of the book "Centring the Periphery: Chaos, Order and the Ethnohistory of Dominica," by Patrick L. Baker is presented. The chapter delves into the democracy in Dominica. It recalls that the country experienced a withdrawal process in which the internal government was abandoned while external and defence portfolios kept their place in the metropole. It also examines the emergence of trade unionism in the country which resulted from the mandate of the Moyne Commission concerning the removal of legal obstacles to the formation of unions. |
