Abstrakt: The present study was conducted to know the bactericidal effect of SODIS (Solar Water Disinfection) technique and the acceptability of SODIS was judged after 30 days of its use by 30 rural families in Hisar district. The findings revealed that mean percent reduction in coliforms count, E. coli and viable bacteria count, was found tremendous in SODIS treated water. A majority of the respondents revealed low symbolic adoption, willingness and change proneness (53.4%, 73.3% and 40.0% respectively), highly positive opinion (63.3%) and medium knowledge level and overall acceptability (56.7% and 66.7% respectively) towards SODIS technique. So, it may be concluded that as SODIS emerges as a simple and cost-effective water purification technique at household level, people are not yet ready to adopt it in entirety. So, it is important to adopt integrated coordinated approaches by various agencies and departments like health, education and research organizations to promote adoption of SODIS technique at domestic level.
