The article discusses the role played by catalysts and supercritical fluids in biofuel technology and in green chemistry. It states that transport fuels will be liquid organics for the foreseeable future as the best technology for centralized power generation such as coal, gas, nuclear, and solar-thermal. Catalysis has a key role to play in both green chemistry and the development of alternative fuels because it has the capacity of increasing the rate of a reaction without being consumed or incorporated into the final product.
