Abstrakt: The article explores the pharmacologically active constituents of white and red ginseng root. Of the 3 prominent commercial ginsengs, Asian ginseng is perhaps the most revered of traditional Chinese medicines. The root of American and Asian ginseng have been found to contain more than 30 triterpene dammarane-type saponins to which are attributed most of ginseng's pharmacological activities. A variety of immunological effects have been demonstrated in vitro for ginseng root extracts.
