Abstrakt: The article presents a profile of two academics and political activists, the Sri Lankan Kumar Rupesinghe, and the South African Paul van Zyl. The two have in common a professional path in which they mixed political engagement and academic work. Kumar Rupesinghe has been active in the struggle for peace between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamul Tigers rebel group. The work of several non governmental organizations (NGOs) such as the Ford Foundation and the Peace Research Institute of Oslo are discussed.
