| Abstrakt: | The article presents a social history of imperial Russia from 1700-1917. Russian historians since 1991 have struggled to find a suitable framework for Russian history. However, it is true among historians that Russia is a state before it is a nation. The country has successfully undergone societal modernization during the Imperial era, such that people have gained autonomy whether communal or corporative. |
