The article presents a scientific evaluation of the composition of lead patina which is used as a coating in church windows. It attempts to examine and explain the nature of patina as it is important in the maintenance and restoration of the stability of leaded glass windows. It states that the study obtained a sample of lead patina from the glass windows of the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio and utilized a modern analytical instrument and gas chromatography, as well as mass spectrometry, to treat the subject. Results indicated that lead patina is indeed not a harmful substance to either lead or glass. Further discussions of the details related to the study are provided. |
