The article profiles the stained glass maker Owen Doremus. Basic facts about Doremus' life is said to be preserved by Montclair historian Henry Whitmore. It notes that Whitmore's chief source of information has been Doremus' brother Joseph, who has been the partner of Doremus in his glass studio. A brief account of the life of Doremus is provided. By the end of 1850s, it says that Doremus has been active in founding the St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Montclair, New Jersey, in which it was assumed that Doremus has provided stained glass window for his own church. Five known surviving windows of Doremus as well as their artistic features are discussed. |
