The article discusses the importance of quality of life and resiliency as measures to determine the success of student development in community colleges. Among the factors that impact quality of life are the level of education, level of income, number of dependents, financial commitments, social/community environment and housing. The intersection of high-wage degree and high wage salary also affect a student's quality of life. To help retain students and help them accomplish their goals, an understanding of a student's quality of life is emphasized. Another factor of quality of life pressures is the educational time clock of a student. Several factors are also incorporated in students' resiliency index, including self-esteem, receptivity to change, and perceptions of right and wrong. |
