Abstrakt: The article focuses on the operations of the Blacks Ford Water Reclamation Facility located south of Jacksonville, Florida. Since the facility discharges to a surface waterbody, it had to meet Class I reliability standards while offering advanced wastewater treatment. The state of Florida requires that the facility receive secondary treatment because its effluent is used for irrigation of public-access areas. In order to meet its treatment objectives, the facility uses a mix of optimized sequence batch reactor (SBR), chemical addition at appropriate operating points during the SBR cycle, and high-level ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection meeting National Water Research Institute regulations.
