Abstrakt: The article comments on a paper by Peter Schjeldahl about the exhibition of paintings by Robert Colescott at the Phyllis Kind Gallery in New York City published in the June 2, 1998 issue of "The Village Voice." According to the author, Schjeldahl has the ability to respect the beauty present in the complex works of Colescott. He adds that Schjeldahl evaded the dilemma of speaking intelligently about the conceptualization of the African-American experience within a historical American landscape.
