The article explores the use of the statistic, I[R] called the cumulative index of representativeness for determining the relative degree of the representativeness of each of a group of preexisting samples in modern statistical research in communication. To illustrate the use of the cumulative index of representativeness, data from the 1971 first Democratic Primary in Mississippi were used. It explains why in some instances, it is preferable to use a preexisting sample rather than a randomly drawn sample. |
