Abstrakt: This study was conducted to examine the wearing of mouthguards by various athletes with or without mandatory wearing when playing sports. Subjects were divided into two groups : group A (n=46) had to wear the mouthguard and group B (n=134) did not have to wear one. A custom-made mouthguard was made for all subjects. They received instructions on how to wear it when playing sports and weight training, and answered a questionnaire survey after using the custom-made mouthguard for a few months. All subjects of group A used the mouthguard, and 91.0% of group B did not use it. However, 19.6% of group A subjects used the mouthguard during weight training in contrast to 55.2% of group B who used it during weight training. It was suggested that athletes who are not required to wear a mouthguard during sports may wear one during weight training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
