The link between maintaining family connections while incarcerated and improved reentry outcomes has been well established. What is less understood is how correction staff and case managers can identify family ties and the connections to broader social networks. Building on the studies of social networks as well as strength-based work, we have developed and tested a new tool for corrections staff and case managers. The tool rests on the hypothesis that if corrections staff and case managers ask questions about the social networks and family support of individuals in prison or recently released from prison this will (1) change the conversations and perceptions they have of the people with whom they are working, and (2) improve reentry case management practices.Authors: Margaret diZerega, Jan Holland, and Carol Shapiro ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
