The article describes the case of a nine-year old asymptomatic boy who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and a blood lead level. Following chelation therapy physicians discovered from an abdominal radiography and stool study an intake of various objects such as refrigerator magnets, string and paper. It was referred to pica, which is the unusual phenomenon of compulsive ingestion of non-food substances. The source of lead could not be determined. |
