Recently, there has been a call for more theoretical and empirical attention to race and ethnicity in social psychological research (Bobo and Fox 2003; Hollander and Howard 2000; Hunt et al. 2000). Even though racial and ethnic identity has been a topic of interest within sociology, there has been slow theoretical and empirical progress regarding racial and ethnic identity at the social psychological level. In this paper, we provide a review of the racial and ethnic identity literature and then use theoretical and empirical insights from social psychological theories on identity to inform the literature. By suggesting avenues for bridging these two areas of identity scholars, we hope to advance theorizing about racial and ethnic identity. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
