The article presents an analysis of heterosexism as one of the world-system's weapons. The author notes that heterosexism takes the form of systemically and culturally unequal processes, and agrees to Suzanne Pharr's notion that homophobia is a weapon of sexism. He argues that heterosexism serves as the world-system's shields that allows powerholders to advance inequalities and protect the system. Moreover, he argues that hetero- and ageist-sexism are global institutions of the capitalist world-system. He also analyzes sexism as the by-product of patriarchal ideology while feminists argue that sexism's sources are the separate systems of patriarchy and capitalism. It also presents the feminists' interpretation on sexism, sexism as a global institution, and households in the world-system. |
