Chapter 1 of the book "Libraries and Learning Resource Centres" is presented. It focuses on the history of the library design, both in form and meaning. The emergence of the library is presented with its function and its architectural form. Its commonalities with the museum and art gallery are discussed along with the role of education in its separation from these structures. The nature of space is explored together with the aspect of time in communication. The definition of the library is presented along with different types. |
