An encyclopedia entry for odonata is presented. It refers to paleopterous, exopterygote aquatic insects, associated with the Ephemeroptera. Dragonflies are quite harmless because they do not sting and will only try to bite humans when held captive. They are warm-water-adapted species that probably came from a tropical environment. An overview of the characterization and morphology of odonata is provided. |
