Abstrakt: An encyclopedia entry for "gallmaking and insects" is presented. The host plant is stimulated by the gallmaking insect through a chemical reaction so that the gall is much more than a simple response to wounding or feeding damage. Cecidia or plant galls refer to abnormal growths of plant tissue. The process of cecidogenesis which involves increased levels of plant growth regulators is described. The entry also covers the ecology of gallmaking and the economic impact of galls.
