While the development of procedures for experimental research and the implementation of the design often appear to be simple and straight forward projects, the steps involved are far more time consuming and complicated than one may except. This chapter discusses some of the common problems encountered when conducting laboratory research, including bias in experimental manipulations, possible contamination, issues with using and training confederates, recruiting and scheduling subjects, videotaping, managing time, and maintaining records. We offer suggestions and a "hands-on" approach to setting up and running an experiment primarily in university settings using undergraduate subjects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
