Chapter 7.5 of the book "Handbook of Clay Science" is presented. It summarizes the vast volume of literature on (cationic) clay minerals that has been accumulated over the past 30 years. It provides the new definition of International Union of Pure Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and the fundamental principles of pillaring. It also provides a description of the different clay minerals used, the pillaring species and the properties of the pillared interlayered clays (PILC) products. |
