Abstrakt: Chapter 2 of the book "Culinary Taste: Consumer Behaviour in the International Restaurant Sector" is presented. It explores the concept of postmodernism and its influence on culinary taste and consumer behavior within the international restaurant sector. It highlights the two alternative propositions that individuals construct their self-identities through consumption as a result of the emergence of postmodern society, and the adoption of social interaction and security through lifestyles as a result of the decline of traditional social structures.
