Abstrakt: The electrokinetic behavior of negatively charged polystyrene dispersions in methanol-water mixtures has been studied. Data obtained from streaming potential and electrophoresis measurements have been compared. The theory of Levine et al. (J. Colloid Interface Sci., 52 (1975) 136) for systems consisting of narrow capillaries has been used to convert streaming potential data into zeta-potentials. For the electrophoresis data the theory of Dukhiin and Semenikhin (Kolloid. Zh., 37 (1975) 1127) has been employed. The electrokinetic behavior of polystyrene latices appears to be extensively influeced by a rather large value of the surface conductance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
