Abstrakt: Thermal fluctuations of giant unilamellar vesicles have been investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The theoretical model developed here takes the conservation of vesicle volume and membrane area explicitly into account. Using the membrane tension as a single adjustable parameter we are able to explain the experimental data. The bending elastic modulus of egg-yolk lecithin bilayers is kc=(0.9±0.2) · 10−19 J.
