The article discusses the ceramics work of Professor Robert Winokur at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1974, he built a salt kiln in his studio in order to research salt glazing. His use of the salt-glazing technique has led to a paint-like quality in his works. "Jar with Handle," a Winokur stonework owned by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, demonstrates how salt glazes enhance the stonework. The work also refers to the expressionistic movements in painting and ceramics. |
