The article focuses on the evolution of the definition of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment used by the U.S. government following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The author observes that the administration of President George W. Bush resorted to forceful interrogation techniques in dealing with suspected terrorists. He questions the legality of the methods used by the U.S. and its violation of the Convention Against Torture and the Geneva Convention for Prisoners of War (POWs). |
