Abstrakt: A literary criticism of the novel "Mary Barton," by Elizabeth Gaskell is presented. It underscores the characters and explores the symbolic importance of these characters. It also outlines that Gaskell questions the use of class-oriented terms, which she thinks promotes class antagonism, throughout the pages of his novel.
