The article presents information on Native Indian culture and communities in South-Central Arizona. The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation has 25,000 acres of cactus-studded rolling hills bisected by the Verde River flanked with vegetation and fields. The Gila River Indian Community's flat expanse was the first Indian reservation established in the state. The Indian reservation of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community encompasses approximately 54,000 acres of desert, including a nature preserve. The Tohono O'Odham Nation is a huge Indian reservation the includes the Gila Bend and the San Xavier reservation communities. |
