Abstrakt: We are living in a world that is suffering a pandemic of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, continued high levels of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and an unsustainable population explosion. In the last 40 years, the number of humans on this planet has doubled. The youth of the world's population today ensures that all STIs will continue to increase unless concentrated, deliberate, and committed efforts are made to slow their spread. In the face of these critical crises, it is important to recognize the impact that different contraceptive agents may play in the spread or control of STIs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
