Abstrakt: The article discusses several royal monuments and other artworks and antiques that depict Hindu god Vishnu or his manifestations. Fifth century king Manadeva was the first royal figure who commissioned a self-portrait disguised as Garuda, a follower of Vishnu. Vishnugupta, who reigned in the 7th century, commissioned a monument depicting himself as Vishnu in his supreme regal form known as Para Vasudeva. Other artworks cited are lying statues of sleeping Vishnu, royal thrones depicting Garuda and Vishnu-themed paintings.
