Damaged Goods: State and status in the work of John Deakin.

Abstrakt: The article focuses on the alteration of the position of John Deakin's work in marking him as a photographer worthy of serious interest because of the damaged state of the said works. His career in photography ended when he moved to painting in the 1960s. Most of his work were discovered stuffed into envelopes under his bed and in fairly poor condition. Art museums' central concept of presentation and display are undermined by the damaged nature of the work. According to the article, the present condition of his work is reflective of the photographer's attitude.
