The article describes Burton Constable Hall in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The house is described as the product of five building campaigns, which included the construction of extensions housing the present kitchens wing on the south, and a duplicate range, for lodgings, on the north, as well as the addition of a west front adjacent to the south stair turret. Fragments of a carved two-storey stone screen of Smithson's Great Hall can be seen embedded in the remodelled cellar walls. The house features large quantities of the richest Regency and High Victorian furniture. |
