Abstrakt: The article presents a study on the landscape history and vegetation development in the eastern Netherlands. It states that an examination of a large number of pollen samples from pools and wells has led to a more detailed understanding of the vegetation development in the eastern Netherlands between 1100 B.C. and 1500 A.D. It mentions that many of the medieval and younger open fields in the area are likely to have been in continuous use for agriculture from the Iron Age until the present day.
