The article focuses on the three-dimensional fiber art form created by deaf and mentally retarded artist, Judith Ann Scott. Scott, who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 1, 1943, was shaped by the custodial institution that took her in, as well as by her twin, Joyce, who took her out from the institution on November 26, 1986. According to the author, Judith's objects serve as the basis for her concern with covering over and concealing. This formula of concealing within a sequence of soft fiber membranes, of yarn, cord and string, find expression in all her work. |
