The article describes three interrelated programs on interdisciplinary and undergraduate science education administered by the Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. The programs were designed for major and honor students in all scientific disciplines, with the aim of developing transferable skills and broad outlook on science. Since the programs involve a community of students, faculty, administrators and staff, the benefits of such communities to the students are also explored. The general problem encountered in designing and implementing cross-disciplinary programs are also discussed. |
