Abstrakt: Once again, murderer Jose Medellin is in the news. As he approaches his (hopefully) final hour, death penalty opponents, statists and internationalists are going all out in their efforts to  force Gov. Perry to stop his execution under the false premise that going through with the execution will endanger Americans abroad. Fourteen years and numerous judicial reviews have passed since José Medellin was sentenced to die after confessing to the brutal gang rape and murder of two teenage girls in Houston. That's long enough, state officials say. It's time to carry out the sentence. But defense attorneys, and an unusual coalition of federal officials, including no less than the attorney general and secretary of state, say if his Aug. 5 execution is not stayed, so Mr. Medellin's case can be reviewed one more time at the behest of the International Court of Justice, Texas will be rushing to judgment and endangering Americans abroad. Fourteen years is past long enough. The "issue" as we know well by now is that this beast wasn't provided access to the Mexican consulate after his arrest. Of course, the fact that he had been here illegally since a young age, attended local schools, spoke English fluently and, as such, no one thought to request consular assistance because he had been provided a lawyer seems to have been forgotten. Anyone that thinks this beast is being railroaded and an injustice will be committed if the State of Texas fulfills its' duty and executes him is a fool. The rest of them simply want their particular agendas to carry the day. Gov. Perry seems to be holding up under the pressure. But Gov. Perry remains resolute. Spokesman Robert Black admits the federal government has "a big sort of dilemma" because the United States as a whole is obligated to abide by international treaty obligations, but individual states are not. Still, "the governor isn't feeling any pressure on this simply because he is here to uphold the laws of the state of Texas and not some foreign court in Europe," he said. Even so, he needs to hear from you, conservative Texans, that you support him in this decision. His office number is 512-463-2000. Oftentimes, we think that someone else is going to make the call and we don't need to. Don't let apathy stop you from calling. He needs to know that Texans are solidly behind him on this, even if you have disagreed with many of his positions in the past. And if you are feeling apathetic, I urge you to read about this crime and the brutality involved. If you are still apathetic after reading the details of what this beast did to these two girls, you aren't really apathetic - you are soulless.
