An interview with Cuban-American artists Lydia Rubio, Cesar Trasobares, Ricardo Zulueta, Ricardo Viera, Maria Brito and Maria Lino is presented. Trasobares considers an ordinance in Dade County, Florida, that restricts the use of art funds in promoting any language of culture other than that of the U.S., ironic. Viera cites his experience as a consultant to the Cuban Museum of Arts and Culture in 1982. Zulueta states that the stereotyping of Cuban artists is inflicted upon people by curators and art historians. |
