Abstrakt: This paper presents the roots and the consequences of the environmental degradation in Copşa Mică Area (Romania), as well as mitigation measures. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) and territorial analysis were applied on this environmental area. The assessment of the environmental decline was based on four categories of indicators: environmental, economic, social, and landscape structure and quality. We have established a set of relational environmental indicators, viewed as a tool for community development and enhancement of the environmental security. The methodology and results of the assessment (i.e. assessment matrix and a plan of environmental restoration) will be implemented into the process of local environmental planning.
