Abstrakt: A reprint of the article "Macbeth: The Torture of the Mind," published in the book "Shakespeare's Mature Tragedies," by Bernard McElroy is presented. It examines the qualities of literary character Macbeth in the self-name tragedy written by dramatist William Shakespeare. It notes that qualities of violence, fear, equivocation and diabolism permeate every corner of the mind of Macbeth in the play. It suggests that the complementary tension between proneness to evil and abhorrence of evil in the macrocosm and the microcosm alike is explored in the play.
