The article discusses a Yoruba bowl carved by the famous Yoruba carver, Olowe of Ise. Susan Kloman and Catherine Elliott of the African and Oceanic Art Department report in great detail how they researched the bowl. Also presented is research concerning the most original known owner of the bowl, Mr. Holland, who was thought to have worked on the railways in the same area of South Africa where Olowe was active. Many proofs brought from the style and carving techniques of the bowl proving that it is the work of Olowe of Ise are presented. |
