Abstrakt: The article discusses Tarahumara chapeón masks used by the Chapeone group of Tarahumara Indians of Chihuahua, Mexico. The masks are worn by men who participate in the matachine dances during fiestas. The article discusses the collection of chapeóne masks at the Arizona State Museum, covering the following topics: carved masks, hide masks, types and uses, decoration, head straps, and new and old masks. There are many unanswered questions regarding chapeóne masks.
