Abstrakt: The discovery of fullerenes with short C-C distances has revived hope for new superhard materials from carbon. Fullerenes are new allotropic forms of carbon with molecular structure. The fullerene molecules look like closed hollow spheres; their surface is lined with hexagons and pentagons from carbon atoms. The hexagon with atoms of carbon in its vertices is a structural element of both fullerenes and graphite. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
