The article analyzes some aspects of the political and religious relations between catholics and socialists in Reggio Emilia at the beginning of the 20th Century. In a highly polarised context, the author examines the opposition of local catholicism to the Predica di Natale of Camillo Prampolini, the exemplar document of propaganda of the socialist leader. Fighting against the 'evangelical socialism' the catholics contrasted the political myth of 'Jesus as a socialist' promoted by Prampolini through a strong antagonism, in a more religious than political perspective. Analyzing the attempt to dismantle the Predica di Natale, the author focuses the attention on the anti-socialist struggle as turning point in the evolution of the catholic propaganda.
