The article reports on the plan of the government of Nunavut to produce a carvingstone database. It is noted that the planned operational geographic information system (GIS) database will cover the location, size, quality and geological setting of carving stone occurences in the region by the summer of 2005. Consultant Lynn Peplinski plays a role in the creation of the database. Among the benefits of the database is helping carvers locate existing or forgotten quarries. It will be distributed to economic development officers or artists who request it. |
